In 2018, our club committed to a new initiative, a signature service project. While we do volunteer events all across Metro Detroit, we wanted to add something special that we could make a focus of our club. We began by adopting Grant Park in Royal Oak and installed a Little Free Library (LFL) at the park. This initiative is an ongoing commitment of our club to not only care for the park, but to keep books in the hands of children, free of cost, to foster a love of reading at a young age.
In 2020, we expanded our signature service project and added a second LFL, this time at Oakland Family Services in Pontiac. A longtime partner of ours, OFS provides important services to children and families so that they can build brighter futures. This second LFL offered another great opportunity to get books in the hands of children who need them most. The next addition came in 2022 at River Bends Park in Shelby Township. Most recently, in 2024, we installed a LFL at Richmond Middle School with help from their Builders Club.
Book Donations
While many people will return books, any time a book is not returned, we know it's a good thing. That's a child who has a book that they did not have before. As such, we are always seeking book donations. If you have books you would like to donate please reach out via the contact box below. Your support to our project and to the children in our communities is greatly appreciated.
