Oakland Family Services - Clean Up and Planting

Saturday May 14, 2022
9:00 AM - 12:00PM

Oakland Family Services - 114 Orchard Lake Rd, Pontiac, MI 48341

Join us as we assist Oakland Family Services with a garden clean up and planting. Oakland Family Services has a small vegetable garden that needs a good clean up and then planting. Their cook uses the vegetables that are harvested throughout the summer in meals that are provided to kids that the organization supports. It's a fairly small garden so if time allows their playground can always use a general clean up too!

You will be receiving an email from Katy Willoughby on Wednesday, May 4th with release forms that will need to be signed and emailed back to the OFS contact by Tuesday, May 10th. Be on the lookout for that email.

In 2017, Keep Belle Isle Beautiful was created as Belle Isle Park’s first and only anti-litter campaign. Through this campaign, we work together with park users, communities, and corporations to act locally while thinking globally and overall connect the Great Lakes region to the worldwide concern of single-use plastic pollution and marine litter.

Cleanups are free, family-friendly events, welcoming volunteers of all ages! Volunteer waivers are required. Please dress for the weather predicted that day and bring your own work gloves and reusable water bottle.

Earth Works Urban Farm

Saturday August 18, 2022
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

1264 Meldrum (at St. Paul) Detroit, MI 48207

Earthworks is a program of Capuchin Soup Kitchen. This organization not only feeds Detroit residents, but also strives to create a food-just Detroit, one in which all people have control over their food. Volunteer work will vary depending on the time of year and will range from mixing soil, flipping compost, cultivating beds, handling seedlings and other general cleanup tasks.

Please make sure that you come prepared to work by wearing the appropriate clothing: comfortable, closed-toe shoes are required and long pants that you don't mind getting dirty. We also highly recommend that you bring a reusable water bottle, a hat with a brim to keep the sun out of your face and maybe some sun block. We work rain or shine so dressing for the weather is also recommended. Please note that closed-toe shoes are required!

If you have any additional questions about this volunteer opportunity, please contact project lead Katy Willoughby at ktylus@gmail.com.
